Most of my cc comes from the 3t2 database, because I only use maxis match. You can find skins and eyes pretty much anywhere, I'd search in MTS.
My game is slightly less stable and more prone to lagging and crashing with cc, but then again I have 8 GB which is a ridiculous amount. I only get lag on big lots.

I use a lot of default replacements in my game. most of which I find here: http://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/

Google ACR, and download that. It's amazing, Sims will actually do romantic interactions on their own based on chemistry. There is also a 'Buy free clothes from home' mod at MTS. Just go their and browse the Mods section, you'll find some pretty useful stuff.

sims2defaults has already been mentioned but I really like this site. It limits how much CC clothing and hair items I download. I have defaults for almost every clothing and hair item plus career/NPC outfits.

I looked into this because I wouldn't mind some tweaks, but got scared off by this 'NEWS July 25, 2014 - My official statement about my mods and the Ultimate Collection: I don't care. I've been screwed enough by EA that, free or not, I wouldn't touch that collection with a ten-foot pole wrapped in fifty condoms. I have seen no evidence to support the community's claim that the UC uses AL/M&G code so I have no idea if my mods will work, and no interest in finding out.' because I was one of the lucky ones that got UC from Origin. Anyone know if these mods'll work?

I use a fair number of his mods and I've got the UC. No immediately apparent issues.
